Tum Joseph, was prosecuted before an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, with stealing some domestic and home products from his mother.
When Joseph went before the presiding judge, George Gwani, on Tuesday, he was charged with three counts of criminal intimidation, making a disturbance of the peace, and stealing.
According to the prosecution’s counsel, Esther Bishen, who testified in court, Bridget, the defendant’s mother, who lives in Ungwan Fari, Kafanchan, reported the event to the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on July 7.
According to Bishen, the complainant was caring for her bedridden husband when she discovered that her son had removed several items from the residence.
Among the items taken were a mattress, two canisters of herbicide chemicals, 10 yards of wrapping paper, and some of her husband’s clothing. The defendant’s mattress was discovered during an investigation.
The defendant also disparages and insults his mother, according to the prosecution. The offense, she claims, breaches sections 378, 76, and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law. Joseph, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution requested an adjournment to allow the police to introduce witnesses to support its case.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N20,000 and a surety in the same amount by Justice Gwani, who delivered the verdict.
