Ilebaye recently became caught in a controversy when she promptly disclosed her bank account information online after winning a large prize of 120 million Naira. She did this to explain her account information and prevent people from sending money to the wrong account. This decision, however, sparked a social media firestorm.
Since her victory, many of her followers and friends had sent money to her account. Nonetheless, it appears that some people have taken advantage of the situation by impersonating Ilebaye and falsely claiming to have her account information.
Her team quickly stepped in to clarify the situation, warning the public not to send money or presents to any account that was not confirmed under Ilebaye’s official social media handles.
They then gave her direct account information for any direct payments. Her decision to publish her bank account information rather than outline a detailed plan or charity activities, on the other hand, caused worries among her admirers and followers.
Many supporters expressed their displeasure with Ilebaye’s decision on social media. Some chastised her, while others questioned her motives for publicly disclosing such private information. Emeka Umeh, also known as Tcee, a Twitter user, quoted her tweet and chastised her for being greedy.
