Some of the soldiers who unfortunately died in the August 14, 2023 battle and plane crash tragedy in Niger state have been laid to rest.
In Niger State, 36 officers were slain when gunmen suspected of being terrorists ambushed their convoy, which included an air mission.
According to Sahara Reporters, among the victims were an army major and two lieutenants, one of whom was named as Y. Alkali.
“Nigerian army this morning lost about 23 soldiers, they were ambushed by bandits. One major, two lieutenants were among the victims. In fact, they set some of them ablaze inside the Hilux vehicle,” a soldier told the publication.
Twenty-two of the fallen soldiers were buried at the military cemetery in Abuja today, August 24.
The spouses of the fallen soldiers, family members, and government officials, including Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru, State counterpart Bello Matawalle, and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, attended the funeral.
According to reports, several of the slain officers’ families had already laid them to rest.
