An elderly widow has refused to hand over custody of her grandson to the mother who abandoned him seven years ago and has now returned to seek custody.
The incident occurred in a neighborhood in Abeokuta, Ogun State. According to reports, the boy is the child of the woman’s deceased son.
In an internet video, the mother claimed that seven years ago, her son’s wife informed her she wanted to buy something, and that was the last time she saw her before leaving her baby behind.
After seven years of parenting the youngster alone, his biological mother has returned and wishes to take him away.
The grandmother stated that she would not release the boy since he is the only family she has left after the death of her son and husband.
She also disclosed that her grandson’s mother had remarried and had just gone to claim her child because she couldn’t conceive for her new husband.
The original mother revealed that she went missing because she wanted to hustle and didn’t want to die of hunger in her mother-in-law’s residence.
She claimed she saw an opportunity to migrate to another country in quest of a better life and took it. She is now married, though, and wishes to gain custody of her kid.
She also requested that the grandmother reveal the precise amount she spent on the child’s care and education so that she could settle with her and reclaim her child, but the grandmother refused.
