In connection with the assault on Chinenye, the Enugu State Police Command detained three suspects: Obed Chekwube Ugwuanyi, also known as MC Sharp (male, 32 years old), Chinenye Agbo, also known as Star Ella Ada (female, 26 years old), and Anastasia Onu (female, 26 years old).
This three, as well as others still at large, were filmed in a viral video in which Chinenye was subjected to unimaginable physical violence.
Chinenye was assaulted, stripped naked, and had her hair cut off for reportedly hitting Anastasia, Obed’s lover, and biting her chest.
The video went viral on social media, sparking indignation and a plea for justice for the brutal and degrading punishment meted out to Chinenye.
However, in an unexpected new twist, the suspects say that the incident was a prank intended to help them obtain social media followers.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson, stated in a statement:
A statement by the police spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, noted that;
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the trio are, however, claiming that the video, which has generated public outcry and condemnation due to the inconceivable assault, inhuman and degrading treatments meted out on Chinenye as seen in the video, is a prank and meant to garner followers on their social media accounts.
Ndukwe further stated that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, has instructed the State CID Enugu to properly investigate and prosecute anybody found accountable in order to serve as a deterrence to anyone who may wish to commit such an act under the pretense of prank.
